The upcoming TV show is based on the popular series of novels of the same name written by L.J. Smith. Back in 2010, the author announced that his books have been optioned to be adapted into the small screen by the network. The Secret Circle tells the story of Cassie Blake, a seemingly normal teenager whose life has suddenly changed after her mother got into a tragic fire accident. Her father has also been killed a few years go. Now, orphaned at the age sixteen, she left the city and went on to live with her grandmother, Jane, on Chance harbor in Washington, the hometown of her mother. Her new town is quite quaint and peaceful at first. But she soon notices that not everything and everybody is what they seem, and that her family has kept a lot of secrets from her. Cassie senses that her coming to the small town has been predestined and that they were all waiting for her for a long time.
When she went into school, she found that her instincts were true. She met her classmates, Diana, Adam, Nick, Faye, and Melissa. They revealed that they have been waiting for and that they want her to be part of the Secret Circle to complete their group after they told her that her ancestors descended from a family of witches. At first, Cassie did not believe what they said, even when Adam, helped her to unlock her powers. But she was later convinced after she found a message written on an old book of spells in her mother’s bedroom. She soon realizes that destiny has brought her here to complete this generation’s circle of powerful witches. But her return also sparked some trouble as darker and sinister forces are lurking around them. The adults of their town, including Diana’s father and Faye’s mother may have also been involved on the “accidental” death of her mother.
And now, Cassie is trying to investigate on what really happened on her mother’s death. She wants to find on who are the people behind the gruesome that befell on her mother. And other than dealing with her mother’s case, she must also learn to deal with her heart. She must keep herself at bay as she is beginning to fall for Adam. Adam is the handsome boyfriend of Diana, the sweet natured leader of the Secret Circle. The three will then be involved on a love triangle.
The Secret Circle will star Britt Robertson as Cassie Blake. Robertson was previously seen on The CW’s canned show Life Unexpected and the slasher film Scream 4. Playing her love interest Adam Conant will be Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles’ Thomas Dekker, meanwhile, Former Miss Teen USA and Days of our Lives alum Shelley Hennig will be playing Diana Meade. Gale Harold, who was also seen another The CW’s axed show Hellcats will be playing Diana’s father Charles Meade. Australian actress and model Phoebe Tonkin will be playing Faye Chamberlain, who will make Cassie’s life a living hell. Faye’s on screen sidekick Melissa Glaser will be portrayed Canadian actress Jessica Parker Kennedy. Model turned actress Natasha Henstridge will play Principal Dawn Chamberlain. Cassie’s grandmother Jane Blake will be played by Ashley Crow, best known for her role on NBC’s Heroes. The pilot episode, which will air on The CW on September 15, will be directed by Liz Friedlander, will be penned by Andrew Weller, who received an Emmy nod for his web series Imaginary Bitches.
